Self-discipline isn’t hard. Being distracted is. Your mind wants clarity. When you feel out of control, it’s because your attention is scattered across too many trivial things. You don’t lack discipline - you lack a compelling direction. If the future you want were vivid enough, most distractions would dissolve on their own. If the path you’re on were unacceptable enough, you’d change it instantly. Look closely at your life. Where does it go if you continue exactly as you are? Feel that discomfort. Let it fuel you. Not as punishment, but as information. Discipline is not willpower. Discipline is identity. A writer writes because that’s who they are. An athlete trains because that’s who they are. For them, not doing the work is what feels wrong. When your actions align with your identity, effort becomes automatic. When you’re distracted, it’s because your identity is undefined. So don’t “try” to be disciplined. Remove the distractions. Reduce your options. Make the right action the default action. Quiet the mind. Choose one direction. Then execute.
